On July 23, 2024 a volcanic vent located about eight miles from the primary caldera at Yellowstone exploded. RGM News reporters were at Yellowstone just two days before the incident, witnessed large plumes of steam coming from the ground near Biscuit Basin.
Photos were not taken however, our photo journalists were there to shoot mountains. And steam coming from the ground is not unusual in Yellowstone park.
Similarly, the main caldera of the 1,500 year old Soda Lakes volcano in Fallon, Nevada has a dry volcanic vent about 6 miles away called Rattlesnake hill.
When the Rattlesnake vent exploded, it sent basalt rocks the size of basketballs and larger flying through the air just like the explosion at Biscuit Basin.
Could this be a prelude to something bigger at Yellowstone?
