Notable mountaineers of our time

Mountaineers of the Eight-thousanders and more

These are the exceptional men and women braving the tallest mountains on the planet. Learn about their unique skills, accomplishments, broken records, and the driving force behind them.

The more infamous have climbed all fourteen eight-thousanders, the highest mountains in the world, over 8,000 meters. Featured in the photo is Reinhold Messner, the first to climb all fourteen of the Giant rocks. See all 14 at:

Only a handful of these Himalayan jocks have climbed the highest mountains of the western hemisphere, as they pale in comparison to the eight-thousanders but, that does not make them any less dangerous to climb. In fact, Cerro Fitz Roy in Argentina's Patagonia is considered the deadliest climb in the world.
